1. A Mirror.
Jas 1:23 For if any one listens but does not obey, he is like a man who carefully looks at his own face in a mirror.
Jas 1:24 Although he has looked carefully at himself, he goes away, and has immediately forgotten the sort of man he is.
Jas 1:25 But he who looks closely into the perfect Law--the Law of freedom--and continues looking, he, being not a hearer who forgets, but an obedient doer, will as the result of his obedience be blessed.
The Word of God like a mirror reflects the mind and Will of God.WNT
2. A Seed.
1Pe 1:23 having been begotten again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, through the word of God, which liveth and abideth. RV
Jas 1:18 Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
things which ye hear, and heard them not.
Mat 13:18 Hear then ye the parable of the sower.
Mat 13:19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the evil one, and snatcheth away that which hath been sown in his heart. This is he that was sown by the way side.
Mat 13:20 And he that was sown upon the rocky places, this is he that heareth the word, and straightway with joy receiveth it;
Mat 13:21 yet hath he not root in himself, but endureth for a while; and when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, straightway he stumbleth.
Mat 13:22 And he that was sown among the thorns, this is he that heareth the word; and the care of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.
Mat 13:23 And he that was sown upon the good ground, this is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; who verily beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
The Word of God is like a seed because once planted in the heart it produces life, growth and fruit.
3. Water.
Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself up for it;
Eph 5:26 that he might sanctify it, having cleansed it by the washing of water with the word,
Eph 5:27 that he might present the church to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
Notice its cleansing, quenching and refreshing properties.
Psa 42:1 BOOK II <For the Chief Musician; Maschil of the sons of Korah.> As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.
Psa 42:2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?
Psa 119:9 BETH. Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.

4. A Lamp.
Psa 119:105 NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and light unto my path,
Pro 6:23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
2Pe 1:19 And we have the word of prophecy made more sure; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day–star arise in your hearts:
It shows us where we are now, it guides our next step, and it keeps us from falling.
5. A Sword.
Heb 4:12 For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two–edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and quick to discern the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Eph 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
It is called the Sword of the Spirit because of its piercing abilities, operating with equal effectiveness upon sinners, saints, and Satan. Of the various armour pieces worn by the believer in Eph 6:11-17 the only offensive piece is the “Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God.”
6. Precious Metals.
A. Gold
Psa 19:8 The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.
Psa 19:9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true, and righteous altogether.
Psa 19:10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
Psa 19:11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: in keeping of them there is great reward.
B. Silver.
Psa 12:6 The words of the LORD are pure words; as silver tried in a furnace on the earth, purified seven times..
It is referred to as precious metals because of their desirability, preciousness, beauty and value.
7. Nourishing Food.
A. Milk.
1Pe 2:1 Therefore, cease ye from all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisy, and envy, and backbiting.
1Pe 2:2 And be like infant children; and crave the word, as being the pure spiritual milk by which ye are nourished up to life;
1Pe 2:3 if ye have tasted and seen that the Lord is good:
Crave the Pure Spiritual Milk of God's Word. |
B. Meat.
Heb 5:12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.
Heb 5:13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
Heb 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
Don't still be on the milk when you should be on the Meat of the Word. |
C. Bread
Joh 6:51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
D. Honey.
Psa 19:10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
8. A Hammer.
Jer 23:29 Is not my word like fire, declares the LORD, and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?
Act 9:4 And falling to the ground he (Saul of Tarsus) heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?"
Jud 1:20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit,
The Word of God can knock down, smash and build up.
9. A Fire.
Jer 20:8 For whenever I speak, I cry out, I shout, "Violence and destruction!" For the word of the LORD has become for me a reproach and derision all day long.
Jer 20:9 If I say, "I will not mention him, or speak any more in his name," there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with holding it in, and I cannot.
Jer 23:29 Is not my word like fire, declares the LORD…..
The Two on the Road to Emmaus with Jesus said to each other, "Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?" Luk 24:32
It is called a fire because of its Judging, Purifying and Consuming Properties.
